About WRL

VRML 2.0 came out in 1996 to put 3D worlds on the web, and became an ISO standard as VRML97 in 1997. The browser plugins that showed it are long gone, but CAD apps, molecule viewers and color 3D printers still use WRL files.

A WRL is text: a scene of nodes, such as shapes with their geometry and appearance, transforms and groups, with colors on faces or corners and textures from pictures beside it.

Filepeek reads VRML 2.0 in your browser with its colors, and its textures when they're opened with it: every object listed, Inspect, Measure and Section. Export saves it as GLB, USDZ, STL or OBJ, or the view as PNG.

Questions

How do I open a WRL file?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a WRL. It opens at once in 3D, with no plugin and nothing to install.

Which VRML files open?

VRML 2.0 and VRML97, which start with #VRML V2.0. VRML 1.0 files, from before 1996, open as text.

Can I turn a WRL into an STL or a GLB?

Yes. Choose Export to save it as STL for 3D printing, GLB for web pages and 3D apps, USDZ or OBJ.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The model opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
