About AAC
AAC became a standard in 1997 as the successor of MP3, and it sounds better at the same size. It's the sound of most MP4 videos, of the iTunes Store and YouTube, and of many radio streams.
Most AAC sits inside M4A or MP4 files. A .aac file holds it alone, in ADTS frames, as radio recorders, some voice recorders and stream downloads save it. HE-AAC, a version made for low bitrates, carries radio streams and DAB+.
Every browser plays AAC by itself. Filepeek adds the whole waveform and the details, and Export saves an MP3 for players that don't take .aac files, or a WAV for editing.

Questions
What's the difference between AAC and M4A?
They hold the same sound. An M4A wraps AAC in an MP4 file with tags and cover art, while a .aac file holds the AAC frames alone.
How do I turn an AAC into an MP3?
Open it, choose Export, then Save as MP3, which nearly every car stereo and old player takes. Drag the handles on the waveform strip to save only a part.
Can I listen faster or slower?
Yes. Pick half, 1.5× or double speed, and voices keep their pitch. Comma and period jump back and ahead 10 seconds.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Your browser decodes the AAC, and the file never leaves your device.
