About AWB

3GPP added AMR-WB to mobile networks in 2001 for clearer calls, known as HD Voice. Phones save voice notes and call recordings as .awb files.

AMR-WB records speech at 16 kHz, twice the band of older calls, squeezed to 6.6 to 23.85 kbps, so a minute stays under 200 KB.

No browser plays AWB by itself. Filepeek decodes it with FFmpeg inside your browser, with its waveform, and Export saves an MP3 any phone or computer plays.

Questions

How do I play an AWB file?

Drop it on this page or press Peek an AWB. It plays right in your browser, with nothing to install.

Can I turn it into an MP3?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as MP3.

What is the difference from AMR?

AMR records the narrow band of older calls at 8 kHz. AMR-WB records twice that band, so voices sound clearer.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The recording opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
