About BLEND

Blender has saved its work as .blend files since 1994, and it's been free and open source since 2002. A .blend is close to a copy of Blender's memory when it saved, so it changes with releases, and it can be compressed, with Zstandard from Blender 3.0.

It holds every scene, object, mesh, material, camera and light, the collections they're in, and the modifiers that change each mesh as Blender draws it, such as Subdivision Surface, Mirror and Array. Blender works those out each time it opens a file, so other apps need Blender to export a .blend first.

Filepeek reads files from Blender 2.80 to 5.x in your browser, with its own reader of the format: the scene that was open, its collections and objects as the viewport shows them, meshes with their Mirror, Array, Subdivision Surface, Solidify, Weld, Edge Split and Smooth by Angle modifiers, materials from their Principled BSDF with the pictures packed in the file or beside it, and its cameras. Export saves it as GLB, USDZ, STL or OBJ, or the view as PNG.

Questions

How do I open a .blend file without Blender?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a BLEND. The scene opens in 3D as Blender's viewport shows it, with nothing to install.

Which Blender files open?

Files from Blender 2.80, from 2019, to 5.x, compressed with gzip or Zstandard or not. Files from 2.79 or older show a note. Curves, text and metaballs, which Blender makes into shapes as it opens a file, aren't drawn.

Are modifiers shown?

Yes. Mirror, Array, Subdivision Surface, Solidify, Weld, Edge Split and Smooth by Angle are worked out as Blender does. Others, such as Boolean or Geometry Nodes, leave the mesh as it was before them, and a note names them.

Can I look through the scene's cameras?

Yes. A scene with cameras gets a Camera menu beside its details. Pick one to see the view it frames.

Can I turn a .blend into a GLB?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as GLB, for web pages and game engines, or USDZ for iPhones, STL for 3D printing or OBJ.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
