About USDZ

Pixar made Universal Scene Description to share film scenes between its studios' apps, and opened it in 2016. In 2018 Apple and Pixar made USDZ, a USD packed in one ZIP with its textures, for AR Quick Look on iPhones and iPads, and online stores and Vision Pro use it too.

A USD file is text (USDA) or binary (USDC): a stage of prims, such as meshes, materials and cameras, in layers. A USDZ packs one of them with the layers it pulls in and its pictures, stored as they are so apps read them in place.

Filepeek reads it in your browser with three.js's reader of USD, so a USDZ opens on Windows, Android and Linux too, with every prim listed, Inspect, Measure and Section. Export saves it as GLB, STL or OBJ, or the view as PNG.

Questions

How do I open a USDZ file on Windows or Android?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a USDZ. It opens in 3D in any browser, with nothing to install.

Can I open USD, USDA and USDC files?

Yes. A text USDA, a binary USDC or a USD of either kind opens like a USDZ.

Can I turn a USDZ into a GLB?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as GLB, for web pages, Android and most 3D apps, or Save as STL for 3D printing.

Can I see it in my room?

Yes. On an iPhone or iPad, View in your room opens it in AR Quick Look, and on Android phones it stands in front of you through the camera, at its real size.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The model opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
