About glTF

The Khronos Group published glTF in 2015 and glTF 2.0 in 2017, a format for showing 3D models rather than editing them, which three.js, Babylon.js, Blender, Unity, Unreal and most 3D apps read. A .gltf is its text form: the scene as JSON, with the meshes in a .bin file and the textures as pictures beside it, or packed inside as base64.

Its JSON lays out a scene of nodes with meshes, materials, cameras, skins and animations, and points into the buffers for the numbers. Extensions add compression, more kinds of material and variants, which stores use to show one product in several colors.

Filepeek reads a .gltf with the files it names: drop or pick them together, or the folder or ZIP they're in, and they're packed into one GLB in your browser. It then shows like any GLB, with its animations, variants and cameras, Inspect, Measure and Section, and Export saves it as one GLB, a USDZ, an STL or an OBJ.

Questions

How do I open a glTF file?

Drop it on this page with its .bin and textures, or drop the folder they're in, or choose Peek a glTF. It opens in 3D, with nothing to install.

What if its .bin file is missing?

A .gltf keeps its meshes in the .bin files it names, so without them there is nothing to draw, and Filepeek asks you to open them together.

Can I turn a .gltf into one GLB?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as GLB, and the scene, its buffers and its textures are saved as one file that's easy to send.

Which glTF files open?

glTF 2.0, from 2017 on, which is what apps save, with Draco and Meshopt compression and KTX 2 textures. A glTF 1.0 file, from before it, opens as text.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The model and its files open inside your browser and never leave your device.
