About EAC3
Dolby Digital Plus, or E-AC-3, is the successor of Dolby Digital. Netflix, Disney+ and other streaming services send their surround sound in it, and Blu-rays can carry it too.
It sounds better than AC-3 at lower bitrates and can carry 7.1 channels or more. Files named .eac3 or .ec3 hold such a track on its own, as rippers and editing apps save it.
Safari on a Mac plays it by itself. In Chrome, Edge and Firefox, Filepeek decodes it inside your browser, and Export saves an MP3 or WAV that plays on anything.

Questions
What's the difference between AC3 and EAC3?
EAC3, or Dolby Digital Plus, is the newer one. It holds more channels and sounds better at the same bitrate. Filepeek plays both.
Is .ec3 the same as .eac3?
Yes. Both names hold a Dolby Digital Plus track, and Filepeek plays either.
Can I save it as MP3?
Yes. Choose Export, then Save as MP3, or Save as WAV for editing. Drag the handles on the waveform strip to save only a part.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The track is decoded inside your browser and never leaves your device.
