About EXP
Melco made the Expanded format for its commercial embroidery machines, and Bernina took it up for its home machines, so an EXP comes as often from a sewing room as from a shop that embroiders uniforms.
An EXP is only stitches, two bytes for each move of the needle, with codes for jumps, trims and color changes, and no header before them. It keeps no colors: Bernina's software keeps them in an .inf file of the same name beside it.
Filepeek reads it in your browser and draws every stitch, sharp at any zoom, each color change in a color of its own so the parts stand apart, and each a layer in the Threads panel to hide or show alone. Show details gives its size, stitches, jumps and trims, and Export saves it as PNG, SVG, or a PES, DST or JEF.

Questions
Why is my EXP in the wrong colors?
An EXP keeps no thread colors. Bernina's software keeps them in an .inf file beside it, which Filepeek doesn't read, so each part shows in a color of its own to stand apart.
Why won't my EXP file open?
Other programs use .exp too, like the export files Windows' linker makes for programmers. Those aren't designs, and Filepeek only opens embroidery EXPs.
Can I turn an EXP into a PES or DST?
Yes. Choose Export to save it as PES for Brother's machines, DST for Tajima's or JEF for Janome's, with the same stitches.
