About PES
Brother made PES for its PE-Design software and its home embroidery machines, which Baby Lock's share. A PES holds the design as the software made it, with the stitches for the machine in a PEC block inside, and that block on its own is a .pec file.
Its stitches are moves of the needle in tenths of a millimeter, with jumps between parts and a stop where the machine changes thread. Each color is picked from Brother's thread chart, and newer versions also keep each thread's name, brand and number.
Filepeek reads it in your browser and draws every stitch in its thread color, sharp at any zoom, each color a layer in the Threads panel to hide or show alone. Show details gives its size, stitches, colors, jumps and trims, and Export saves it as PNG, SVG, or a DST, JEF or EXP for other brands' machines.

Questions
Will this design fit my hoop?
Show details gives its width and height in millimeters, from its outermost stitches, to check against your hoop's sewing field. A Brother machine won't load a design bigger than its largest hoop.
Why is the same thread listed twice?
Each change of thread is a color of its own, so a thread used before and after another is listed twice, in the order the machine will ask for it.
Can I turn a PES into a DST or JEF?
Yes. Choose Export to save it as DST for Tajima's machines, JEF for Janome's or EXP for Melco's and Bernina's, with the same stitches. DST and EXP keep no thread colors, so those are set on the machine.
