About KN5
Assetto Corsa, Kunos Simulazioni's racing game, keeps each car and track as KN5 files, and every mod car and track comes with them. A car's folder holds its model, its skins and its data.
A KN5 starts with sc6969, then its textures, DDS and sometimes PNG, its materials with their shader and settings, and a tree of nodes and meshes. A car's skins folder holds a folder for each skin, whose textures replace the model's own by name.
Filepeek draws the meshes with their textures, mapping Kunos's shaders onto the 3D viewer's materials as closely as they go. Drop the car's folder, and each skin becomes a look to switch between. data.acd, which Kunos scrambles, stays as it is.
