About VRM

VRM came from Japan in 2018 as a standard file for 3D avatars, and the VRM Consortium has kept it since. VRoid Studio makes them, and VTuber apps and social VR load them.

A VRM is a glTF with extensions for avatars: a humanoid skeleton, expressions, springy hair and clothes, and a licence in its metadata that says who may use it, for what, and whether it may be changed.

Filepeek opens it in 3D like any glTF, and Info shows the avatar's name, its authors and every term of its licence, VRM 0.x and 1.0 alike. Export saves it as GLB, USDZ or the view as PNG.

Questions

How do I open a VRM file?

Drop it on this page or press Peek a VRM. The avatar opens in 3D, with nothing to install.

Can I see if I may use an avatar?

Yes. Info lists its licence as the author set it: who may use it, commercial use, credit, changes and sharing it again.

Can I turn a VRM into a GLB?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as GLB. A VRM already is one, with its avatar data on top.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
