About WEBA

Google released WebM in 2010 as an open, royalty free format for the web, and .weba marks a WebM with sound alone. Websites that record your voice in Chrome or Firefox often save WebM, and so do some YouTube downloaders.

A WEBA holds Opus or, in older files, Vorbis, the same sound a WebM video carries, without the picture. Like WebM video and MKA, it's built on Matroska.

Chrome, Edge and Firefox play WEBA by themselves, and so does Safari from version 17.5. Filepeek plays it on older Macs and iPhones too, and Export saves an MP3 for the apps and phones that won't take WebM.

Questions

How do I turn a WEBA into an MP3?

Open it, choose Export, then Save as MP3, which every app and phone takes. Drag the handles on the waveform strip to save only a part.

Is a WEBA the same as a WebM?

Yes, with sound alone. Files named .webm can hold sound alone too, and Filepeek plays those in the same player.

Where do WEBA files come from?

Mostly from websites that record sound in the browser, such as voice notes and online recorders, and from YouTube downloaders. Filepeek plays them all.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The WEBA plays inside your browser and never leaves your device.
